NFL Week 1, Sunday Warm Front and the Week Ahead

Good Sunday morning,

We had showers and thunderstorms overnight with the biggest across northern Missouri. These have been associated with a series of disturbances tracking west to east across the Plains as a warm front evolves south of I-70.

Rainfall varied greatly across the area.

The KC area saw amounts range from a few drops to around 1″.

Northern Missouri had the most widespread and heavy rain with 1″ to 2″ for most locations. There were a few locations that received around 3″ of rain. One of those areas was northwest of Carrollton, MO.

There is a warm front, as of early Sunday morning, set up south of I-70. Temperatures are in the 70s south of the front to the 50s and 60s north of the front. The showers and thunderstorms are lined up with the front. The rain will gradually wind down and end by noon as the warm front drifts north.

It is the first NFL Sunday and how excited are you about the Chiefs? My son and I are quite excited! My prediction is for a 14-2 regular season record, starting with a 31-21 win against Jacksonville today.

The Chiefs are playing in Jacksonville and there will be no rain, but it will be quite hot with highs in the 90s. The weather looks pretty good for most NFL cities today.

Now, Let’s now look at the week ahead.

SUNDAY: The warm front will play havoc with the temperatures this afternoon as highs south of the front will be around 90°, while north of the front it will be mostly in the 70s, even 60s, with 80s near the front. This maps shows the front in KC, however, it could be 25-50 miles farther north or south which would make a huge difference in your Sunday high temperature. There will not be much, if any, thunderstorms along the front this afternoon as the atmosphere becomes capped.

SUNDAY NIGHT-MONDAY MORNING: The warm front will surge north, and as it does, new showers and thunderstorms will form. They will likely occur mostly across northern Missouri, northeast Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska. They may get started near I-70 as early as 9-10 PM before shifting north.

MONDAY AFTERNOON: It will be breezy, very warm and humid with periods of clouds along with a slight chance for a shower/T-Storm. We will be in a zone where weak disturbances will be tracking out of the southwest USA. Highs will be 85°-90°.

TUESDAY: It will be similar to Monday, breezy, very warm and humid with a slight chance for a shower/T-Storm. The rain chance may be a bit higher as there may be a stronger disturbance tracking in from the southwest USA. The clouds will prevent us from jumping to the mid 90s like it will be in southern and southwest Kansas.

WEDNESDAY: This looks like the hottest day of the week as the cloud band shrinks allowing us to reach around 90° or even the low 90s. A cold front will be approaching from the northwest.

THURSDAY: If you did not get the rain you need or did not put the fertilizer down this weekend, then Thursday is the next good chance for widespread rain. A cold front will track across the region and there may be some severe weather as well.

FRIDAY: This will be a nice day as a surface high pressure moves in behind the front. Next weekend will warm back up with rain chances increasing by Sunday or next Monday.

Have a great weekend and GO CHIEFS!!!!!

Also .65″ here in Independence….I think almost all of it fell in one 10 minute deluge. I’m thankful that we don’t have to endure the heat in Jacksonville….having lived in Florida for 12 years I always longed for cooler weather this time of year.

Nice thunderstorm in St. Joe last nightwith some intense cg strikes. One big bright one knocked the power out for a good 20-30 seconds.

I’m most curious to see what the defense does among anything else.

Fertilized and spot seeded yesterday and received about .65” overnight. Perfect amount to get this grass healthy. I just wish these storms would be during the day instead of interrupting my sleep at night. This year it seems we have had numerous storms overnight versus daytime storms. The lawn is looking much better and it’s time for some football. Go Chiefs!!!

Thanks Jeff !
Go Chiefs !!! ( hate to say this, but I think with all of hoop-la and commercialization of Mahomes, I am afraid they will fall flat ) Hope I am wrong !

Ready for some fall temps ! It was another loud one early this morning! Sure has been a noisy summer !

Glad they won. But I meant fall flat this year. Still a lot of work to do. Heart stopper when Mahomes limped off field. And TH with a shoulder injury ? A tough game on both sides.
Interesting to say the least.

September summer in full force and effect for the foreseeable future. This could be like a couple of years ago where I never wore even a jacket to a High School Football Friday night until the playoffs.
