Major Hurricane Dorian & NFL Football Tonight

Good morning bloggers,

While the weather is incredibly nice in Chicago, IL, the Carolina’s are bracing for some of the impacts from Major Hurricane Dorian. Dorian will be close to making landfall tonight and Friday, and then it will speed up and move out to sea over the Atlantic Ocean.

7:45 AM This Morning:

The hurricane is only 60 miles east-southeast of Charleston. The curvature of the coast line alone will create the geographic conditions for possible landfall.  Landfall is defined to be when the eye comes in contact with land.  It is still offshore this morning, but look at Wilmington, North Carolina.  The land turns east right near Wilmington, and the hurricane’s eye will likely be rather close to shore as it turns a bit more to to the northeast.  The wind speeds are now 115 mph sustained, and it may weaken a bit later today. It is still a very dangerous storm.

NFL TONIGHT ON NBC:

The road to the Super Bowl in Miami in February begins tonight in Chicago, IL.

The weather could not be any nicer, and most of the nation will have great weather for the opening weekend of the NFL season.

A great day in Chicago, a nice warm day in KC, and a bad day on the Carolina coast.  Have a great day!

Thank you for spending a few minutes of your day reading the blog.  Let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Gary

Looking at Myrtle Beach live webcam right now, no waves, no high tide or high water, some wind, but looks like not much is happening, and given the current eye location you would think all heck would be going on. In fact an older lady just walked by and a guy taking pictures and another guy just walking around.

Dear Dorian, I remarked about how you were just a wittle ol harmless hurricane, but I tink I was mistaken, but there is still time for you to turn out to sea, do an ol altar boy a favor and leave Wilmington alone, dey never did nuttin to nobody. – Bugsy Ahem…. Chiefs are Super Bowl favorites per odds makers. Many would say take the “over” all year on the chiefs, but I’ve seen Andy Reid’s teams score high for 4-5 weeks and then not score for 4-5 weeks, so you might be better off wagering on Lezak’s weather commodity.… Read more »

I think I’ll use this opportunity to rant about a couple weather websites … 1. Wunderground. On their 10-day forecast page for a city, zip code or station, they recently started loading ALL the layers on the forecast graphic, which makes the graphic very cluttered. They used to just load precip probability, temp and wind speed, which was nice because you got some basic info and then could add whatever other layers you wanted in the Customize thing. Now you get this really cluttered thing and just to see the basic things that most people want to see, you need… Read more »

Regarding number 2, could it be that the increased traffic to the website has resulted in an overload on the server? (I’m no technology guru, but I think it may be somewhat similar to when a website goes down when popular concert tickets go on sale and folks overflow the website). Just a thought. I have noticed it too, I had to stop looking at it last week due to growing impatient waiting for the frames to load.

Just think, last year we had our first measurable snow on October 14th. Could that happen again this year? It’s not likely to happen, but that would only be 39 days away. Hard to believe since we will be pushing into the 90’s for a heat index today. Sunday’s rainfall doesn’t look very impressive so may wait to seed and fertilize until next week. I am ready for slightly cooler temperatures, low to mid 70’s for highs is the sweet spot for me. Lows in the 50’s as well. It’s Friday Eve and I am ready for the weekend.
