Good morning bloggers,

Look at these thunderstorms in Iowa.  They are moving southwest, that’s right, they were heading our way.  An upper ridge is developing over the plains and it is centered west and northwest of KC and the circulation around this system is causing this interesting weather set up:

We will be monitoring this disturbance, and then over the weekend one of these may get a bit closer to KC.  There are still two more days in June, so this contest isn’t over yet. There is a slight chance thunderstorms could threaten our area over the weekend moving in from the northeast or east, but if it doesn’t rain again we have a winner of our contest.  The total rainfall was 7.55″.

  1. Craig:  7.41″
  2. Clay:  7.40″
  3. Jobu:  8.25″
  4. Austin Braddock:  8.50″

So, it is looking like Craig is the winner, with Clay taking a close second, but it isn’t quite over yet.  Let’s see what happens over the weekend.

The contest rainfall amounts with 10 days to go:

  • June 11:  0.06″
  • June 12:  0.51″
  • June 13:  None
  • June 14:  0.03″
  • June 15:  1.10″
  • June 18:  0.17″
  • June 19:  0.15″
  • June 21:  2.02″
  • June 22:  2.84″
  • June 23: 0.70″

Total Rainfall For The Contest:  7.55″

Here are the entries for our rainfall total prediction competition.  My total is 5.09″ during the 20 day stretch ending at the end of the month.

Since it looks like I won, I think there should be a prize.

Got 0.60” of rain in Kirksville – cooled us down at least 10 degrees into the 70’s. It was nice to have a “summer shower” that lasted for 1.5 hours, rather than these spring like all day or all night rains.

Gary, interesting post I am actually up in Crdar Falls IA visiting my mother, and it absolutely pointed , really wasn’t in forecast. Weird watching front move south southwest versus to the east. Guessing 2-3 inches , lots of standing water.

It is hot hazy and humid as to be expected around here this time of year for hundreds of years. No worse than when I was a kid no AC we were acclimated to the weather. This can be taxing so be careful outside.

This is the season that waking up at 4:30 AM to go on long runs or bike rides is essential 😀

This is the kind of day I have been waiting for. FINALLY feels like 100 out there. Hopefully this heat continues into Late September. Loving it!! Bring on all the days possible like this one.

Oh god…please no! This heat is awful and disgusting! What I wouldn’t do to jump in a pile of snow right now.

For the July contest can we move the measure point to the station on the plaza? Thanks.

Why? That’s not the official station. If you want to enter the contest, play by the rules, Pete. Come on.

Clay had 7.4″ for the rainfall total, he didn’t get any respect in your top three.

I think the farmers will be happy with the weather over the next 7 days, much needed dry spell, but they could use 3 weeks of it.

Darn, Craig price is righted me haha! All in good fun. Yeah we should continue the game on a monthly or bi monthly basis.

Not really. Be bad for the crops with 3 weeks of 95 degree weather

Going to enjoy this dry stretch to get some things done, but will welcome the rain late next week. Happy Friday everyone!
