Do We Still Need To Break The Ice?

Good morning bloggers,

We are on a long travel day from Europe back to the United States. We are flying from Venice, Italy to Frankfurt, Germany, then to Chicago before arriving back in KC before midnight, if everything is on time.  It has been a really great time away.  My biggest takeaway is that I love the United States of America, and we have it better than most of you may realize.  Try not to take it for granted.  Oh, I loved visiting England, France, Italy, and Switzerland.  And, for a couple hours in Germany today, but I am homesick and ready to see Sunny The Weather Dog and get back to KC.  At 4 AM, while I was writing this blog entry, I noticed the rain falling apart, but still a few heavy downpours remain.

KCI Airport had only 0.06″ this month so far, as the thunderstorms have been tracking all around our region as of the past couple of weeks.  Did we break the ice this morning, or do we still need to do so this weekend.  Only  0.37″ had fallen by 5 AM and it was just about over, so this is the beginning of our contest.

Here are the entries for our rainfall total prediction competition.  My total is 5.09″ during the 20 day stretch ending at the end of the month.

The gust front blew through downtown Lee’s Summit to the tune of 70-75 mph. Several limbs down, including some larger ones. Oddly, it didn’t rain…at all. It was raining lightly now.

Dime sized hail, 60+ MPH winds, and an absolute deluge of rain in Independence.

Depends on what part of Independence…..here around 31st & Crysler we had .15″ of rain, no hail, but some small branches down with the strong winds.

Torrential rain plus hail where I am on 152 and Green Hills in the Northland. I bet this puts the rain contest total much higher than most of us predicted. I bet two inches of rain will have fallen when this is over.

Wow, areas of southeast Kansas got in one month twice the amount of rainfall/precipitation that St. Joseph has seen year to date. The amounts those areas down in southeast Kansas saw were above each of the total amounts St. Joseph saw in 2017 and 2018. Amazing that the rain shadow we had the last two years is still around. Can’t wait to see what the new lrc will bring and see if the rainfall patterns change substantially in the 2019-2020 lrc. The type of clay soil we have around St. Joseph gets very goopy with too much rain but is… Read more »

06z GFS (the last ever GFS run?) has us looking at another 10-12″ month. That’s a scary thought.

Oh my goodness.
I think we all need to PRAY that this forecast does NOT verify.

As bad as that looks, I’d be shocked if that verified.

Why the doubt?
Places in SE KS got 28″ of rain in May. I repeat, 28″ inches of rain in a month. The GFS also accurately forecasted areas of rediculous rainfall leading up to that, and was basically spot on. So we have established that the pattern is easily capeable of this, and i have little reason to doubt this is on right track even if overdone.

I just don’t buy it because the even cycles have always been drier than predicted. If it happens, then it happens, but I’m not going to jump the gun based on models just yet.

That would be Rediculous amount for even a rainforest or Monsoon , or even a hurricane or tropical system, let alone just a month of Kansas weather!!!
Insane!!
