Good morning bloggers,
An Arctic Blast will arrive this afternoon as the cold front/Arctic front moves through. It will warm up into the 20s just ahead of it later this morning and then it is blast away.
The wind chills will be ridiculously cold, record breaking cold over parts of Iowa-South Dakota-North Dakota-Minnesota-Wisconsin-Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan by Wednesday morning. Kansas City will be on the edge of this record breaking cold air mass, and then it will retreat north by Friday. In fact, a huge warm up is likely this weekend with highs reaching into the 50s with a chance of 60s by Sunday night or Monday. Who is ready for Spring?
The Polar Vortex will lift northeast and by Saturday a series of storm systems will break into the western United States.
Kansas City Weather Timeline:
- This morning: Periods of clouds with a high of 24°
- This afternoon: Temperatures dropping into the teens with the wind increasing from the northwest at 15-30 mph. Wind chills down to near zero.
- Tonight into early Wednesday: Temperatures fall to below zero with -2° to -7° likely by morning. The wind will continue in the 10 -20 mph range creating wind chills of -25° to -15° near KC and colder farther north.
Bundle up and get ready for this blast. In our area it is impressive, but not ridiculous. The areas to the north are truly going to get a record breaker. For KC, we will set our eyes on the weekend warm up and next weeks chance of storm systems soon. Have a great day and thank you for sharing in this weather experience featuring Weather2020 and the LRC.
