A Christmas Miracle: KC Had A White Christmas

Merry Christmas Bloggers,

We had a Christmas Miracle.  In the 12:35 AM Climate Summary Kansas City had a 1″ snow depth after 1.1″ fell officially at KCI Airport on Christmas Eve:

Screen Shot 2017-12-25 at 8.58.02 AM

And, look at what the new data provided us this morning. Another miracle? Snow on Tuesday morning? Take a look at the latest NAM Model:

Screen Shot 2017-12-25 at 8.51.27 AM

This would be more snow in some areas than what happened yesterday.  The big question will be; will the lower layers become saturated? This model saturates the layer and produces 0.06″ liquid which could be close to another 1″ of fluffy snow. The other models have hinted at this, but they have been drier due to the lower layers staying too dry. I lean in the snow direction for early Tuesday.

Sunny The Weather Dog and our family are hoping you have a great holiday week!  Thank you for spending a few minutes of your Christmas Day to read the Action Weather Blog featuring Weather2020 and the LRC. Go over to Weather2020.com, click on the blog and join in the conversation over there.

Apparently the RAP could be correct. It is consistently putting a small band of 1-2 inches of snow over the city. There seems to be bands forming in northwest KS, so this may pan out.

This seemed to be talked about MUCH less than the 1/2-1 inch snowfall on Christmas Eve.

NWS seems to think up to two inches early Tuesday morning in JOCO. even a solid inch in this cold would slick up the roads quick.

My thoughts exactly Mr Pete. It may be “heavy” between 7-9 am. I’m home tomorrow so shall be enjoying it whilst have hot cocoa/coffee! Kitties will want out, but will quickly run back inside.

Home here too. Should be interesting to see how it plays out. It looks like the WWA is a very small area. Kind of strange.

By 2 lrc cycles I meant two full lrc years

Yes but I’m in the pocket of zilch this round. That looks to miss to the north and the early morning snow will be south. So so boring here, and to last 2 lrc cycles blah.

I feel for those in severe drought but so frustrating to have exciting weather near by and be missed for over a year going on a year and a half

Kurt,

Looks like snow just tonyour north sliding southeast

They are really good pinpointing snow that hadn’t developed yet. Another swing and a miss by Mother Nature for St Joseph. At some point Mother Nature has to get it right and produce something exciting for St Joseph.

Yep, and a band coming thru between 7-9 am may produce some decent snow, although total accumulation will be ~1 inch. It will be slick for sure, but still enjoyable. I’m off tomorrow, so I shall be having hot cocoa/coffee watching it snow.

When in a drought leave it out, either way and inch or two of snow this cold isn’t even 1/10 of an inch of melted down liquid. Still in the dry pattern now it’s a brutally cold dry pattern

If we don’t get much snow, or any snow next weekend heres a good scientific explanation. So when Gary says the conditions have to be just right he’s talking about the 3 main ingredients discussed here. Cheers. Maybe a slightly warmer layer holding more moisture vapor slides in to produce some snow. Right now this condition is not a given. Cheers.

I saw the same on KSHB forecast. No snow past tonight/early tomorrow snow. I’m thinking they’re holding off due to the extremely cold weather. With projected temps being so low on Saturday/Sunday it just may suck out any available moisture so none left for snow. We’d need numerous layers to be fully saturated to overcome the brutal cold. Remember that warmer air can hold more moisture.

Looks like subzero temperatures will ring in the New Year.
The NWS predicts we’ll dip down to -4° tomorrow night and -3° on New Year’s Eve, but the KC forecast shows it will be a balmy 2° on both of those nights.

Merry Christmas Gary, Jeff, Bob and all of the Weather2020 staff. And a very special Woof Woof Christmas to Sunny. I bet Santa brought you many treats 🐶 Well, what a Christmas surprise. A white Christmas after all. Looks like we may get another good dusting of snow overnight into early Tuesday. The lower layers, the 925mb and 859mb, appear to be fairly saturated with good dew points, but the bitter cold may curtail the size of the snowflakes making it less than an inch in accumulation. But worry not, since there appears to be a few more chances coming… Read more »

Merry Christmas to all!

Interesting sighting this morning – was outside earlier and noticed a couple of my Daffodils were already pushing up through the mulch! They are anxious for Spring to get here I guess. OP 87th & Antioch

It looks like based off the new data we should expect some snow showers tomorrow morning/early afternoon with a dusting to maybe a 1/2 inch possible.

Merry Christmas everyone!! I will be traveling from NE Missouri & getting on I-70 at Kingdom City & heading to Lees Summit very early tomorrow morning & will be on the road from 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Then meeting friends & heading out across KS via I-70 to Grand Lake, CO. Is the snow tomorrow morning going to cause any travel problems getting to KC & will it be snowing along I-70 heading out across KS. Thanks

Heat,

While I agree about stopping all the PC garbage regarding well, everything LOL, probably should refrain from bringing up Trump as it tends to incite the masses to attack. Here is to wishing we can all find peace ad happiness and learn to respect each others opinions and differences without having to throw jabs 😀 Obviously Keller is incapable for one day of the year………
